Hemorrhoid Questions and Answers

April 14, 2009

Every week I receive a lot of questions about hemorrhoids relating to specific situations from our subscribers.

This week I wanted to share some of those questions as these might be of use to you, who knows, you may be in the exact same situation as another one of our subscribers.

NB. All names given in the emails have been changed to maintain our subscriber’s privacy, other details unrelated to privacy (such as age) remain the same.

Lets get started…

Email 1:
Hi,

I’m 30 weeks pregnant and have just began to
notice that I’m getting some hemorrhoids. I drink
a lot of water and am careful with what I eat but
I still have them. My husband and I are really
tight on money because we are saving up for your
baby and we are moving into a new apartment in a
couple of weeks time.

What could I use to get rid of them without
having to go out and buy pricey creams?

Kelly Campbell, 34, Leeds, UK

Hi Kelly,

You are at the exact time when so many women get
hemorrhoids. As far as cheap solutions go – I
would recommend a natural hemorrhoid cure because
you can use these from your own home and they are
not expensive like creams etc.

If you decide that natural home hemorrhoid cures
are right for you, you have a couple of high
quality options to consider. The first is a
product called H Miracle that is actually a guide
to curing hemorrhoids using a range of food,
herbs and spices that you can buy from most
supermarkets. The second option is a homeopathic
hemorrhoid cure called Venapro. Venapro and H
Miracle both work to strengthen underlying
weaknesses that originally caused your
hemorrhoids and both provide rapid pain relief.

Venapro is a bit more expensive than H Miracle so
perhaps in your case H Miracle will be a better
solution. Last time I checked, H Miracle cost
around US$35.

A couple of things that you can do right now to
help relieve the pain caused by your hemorrhoids
are:

1. Apply a small amount of vinegar to the
hemorrhoid. This will help relieve any itching
and bring down the swelling.

2. Minimize pain and swelling by applying Aloe
Vera gel to the hemorrhoid.

These two tips won’t totally cure hemorrhoids in
most cases but they may make them much more
bearable!

the affordable home hemorrhoid cures I
recommended.

Hope this helps,

Email 2:
Hi,

When trying to pass stool, there is straining and
a feeling of discomfort – I’m really struggling
to pass my stools. Lately I’ve been noticing
small amounts of blood on the toilet paper after
wiping and yesterday I saw some blood in the
toilet after passing a stool. Also the stool is
pellet like and contains mucus. I used to have
hemorrhoids about 4 months ago but they seemed to
clear up after I used creams for about 4
months…Do you think its possible that my
hemorrhoid has returned?

P.S – I’m 23 years old.

Stacey Maddox, New Jersey, USA

Reply:
Hey Stacey,

This could definitely be a hemorrhoid. In
general, the most common hemorrhoid symptoms are
blood on the stool, blood in the toilet bowl,
pain when sitting down or moving around, itching,
mucus emissions, and a feeling of being unable to
finish passing the stool during bowel movement.
You definitely quality for a few of these common
symptoms so I’d say it’s pretty likely that
you’ve had a relapse, most likely because you
stopped using the creams. This is actually a very
common situation for people who use hemorrhoid
creams because almost all creams are work to hide
the symptoms of hemorrhoids, they don’t do a lot
for strengthening the weaknesses that caused the
problem in the first place.

What I suggest you do is increase the amount of
fiber in your diet (eat more fruits, veges etc),
increase the amount of water your drinking – aim
for 8 glasses per day, and get about 20 minutes
of light exercise (walking is fine) 4 days per
week if possible.

Taking this action should definitely help relieve
your hemorrhoids and may even cure them entirely.
If this fails, I suggest trying a natural
hemorrhoid cure, a couple are reviewed here:

Good luck,

Email 3:
Hey,

I have a small hemorrhoid and it isn’t too
painful, just itchy. I just worked out that it
was a hemorrhoid today so I’ve taken the
following precautions – I don’t wipe (I rinse in
the shower afterwards), plan to eat more fiber,
and am avoiding sitting down for long periods of
time.

Will it take more than a week or 2 to clear up?
And am I doing everything right? Is there
anything else I can do?

Janet Wilkins, Truckee, California, USA

Reply:
Hey Janet, you’re doing everything right – good
for you!

Regarding how long hemorrhoids can last – I know
people who have suffered for over 2 years before
finally curing them, others have found that they
come and go a lot, and some people who actively
work to cure them hemorrhoids can rid them
totally in under a week.

Just one tip that I thought might be useful, as
an alternative to having a shower after passing a
stool, you might find it easier to simply wet
some toilet paper or preferably tissues and
gently use these to clean the area. It’s
definitely a lot more comfortable doing this than
using toilet paper and more convenient (at times)
than having a shower.

Regarding if there’s anything additional that you
can do, I would recommend you get some light
exercise 4 times a week if possible (a 20 minute
walk is fine). This will help maintain your
metabolism in good shape.

If you want to try a hemorrhoid cure, I recommend
you consider something natural – these are almost
always cheaper option and they are readily
accepted by your body which means you won’t have
any harmful side-effects.

Good luck, and let me know how you get on!

Hemorrhoids and Their Symptoms

April 5, 2009

When you speak of hemorrhoids you will hear of bloody stools and an itchy anus being the main hemorrhoid symptoms.

The two most common groups of hemorrhoids are known as Internal and External hemorrhoids, each have their own hemorrhoid symptoms.

External Hemorrhoid Symptoms

Located outside the anal canal, the external hemorrhoid is the easier to find than the internal hemorrhoid. It is characterized by the clump of skin that is located near the opening of your anal canal. The more advanced type of this hemorrhoid is bright red, the lesser developed is blue. When walking or sitting down this may because you some pain and even lying down may be uncomfortable. The sizes of the hemorrhoid differ by its development from severe, where it can get as big as a golf ball and not so severe where it can be quite small.

Symptoms of Internal Hemorrhoids

In most cases, internal hemorrhoids will not be as easy to notice as external hemorrhoids. Normally to find this type of hemorrhoid, you will notice that you have bloody stools or that there is blood on your toilet paper. You may even notice that you have some mucus, itching and may feel that you constantly need to go to the bathroom.

The most common of these hemorrhoid symptoms is itching, which is caused because of the mucus that seeps from the hemorrhoid. In addition, the feeling of having to use the bathroom constantly comes from the senses around the anus can feel the hemorrhoids and will think that it is a stool and make you feel as though you have to go, when in reality you may not.

In general, you may not get as much pain from the internal hemorrhoid as you would if you had an external hemorrhoid, unless you are experiencing the most severe type. The earlier stages of this condition may not even produce any pain, however constant itching may give you some discomfort.

Treating Hemorrhoid Symptoms

When you are sure that the pain and discomfort you have is from hemorrhoids, you will want to search for some type of hemorrhoid cure as soon as possible. The failure to find an effective cure for hemorrhoids will lead to the more painful type of hemorrhoid.

You will find that by simply increasing your intake of fiber may help to heal the hemorrhoid symptoms. The eating of fruit, vegetables and fiber rich pastas and cereals will help to make stools softer and to keep down instances of aggravation and pain as well.

Options you have for curing Hemorrhoids

Creams and ointments must be applied many times a day and may cause some burning sensations, however they do not provide a cure to hemorrhoids, they are a temporary pain killer.

2. Sometimes when you have a more severe form of hemorrhoids you may need hemorrhoid surgery. This is usually a last resort as recovery takes 4 weeks or more, it is extremely painful and costs between $1000 US and $1500 US or more.

3. Natural remedies are another hemorrhoid cure that is the most recommended of the three.
